The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh is one of the most popular sellers in our classic art collection. The original piece has a permanent home in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City since 1941.

The Starry Night is a painting of a scene at night with 11 swirly stars and a bright yellow crescent moon.  Presented in the background are hills and a moonlit town with a church that has an elongated steeple, and in the foreground, there is the dark green silhouette of a cypress tree and houses.  One of Van Gogh’s most famous art pieces, The Starry night is an oil on canvas painting produced in June 1889, it depicts the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an idealized village.

Even though The Starry Night was painted during the day in Van Gogh's ground-floor studio, It should be noted however that the starry night was just one of many paintings of the grounds. In fact, the Starry Night Over the Rhône. was produced a year earlier.

The picture’s inspiration, the asylum’s grounds came In the aftermath of the 23 December 1888 breakdown that caused him to cut off part of his left ear where Van Gogh voluntarily admitted himself to the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole lunatic asylum on 8 May 1889.

The Mausole was a former monastery. Since the asylum catered to the wealthy and was only half full at the time it allowed him to have a second-story bedroom but also a ground-floor room for use as a painting studio. During the time at the monastery, he was able to produce some of his best works.

Today this painting would be valued at well over a hundred million dollars. That said you can get one of our table tops with this same print starting around $200.00.

The Starry Night table would work well with a set of other popular artwork like the Mona Lisa, Scream, Sistine Chapel’s Hand of God, and Rembrandt’s The Mill, or in a collection of Van Gogh’s artwork.

The classic art tables like the Starry Night would work well in a college library, a romantic restaurant, a high school fine art classroom, a museum, art gallery or coffee shop.
